Institute of Law, Nirma University, Ahmedabad in its continuous endeavors to support its students to explore every possible field which has an interface with law, is organizing aCertificate workshop on the theme: To the Modern Art of Reporting: Legal Journalism and Career Prospects, where experts from the media and journalism industry will come and share their first hand experiences and knowledge. Not only the workshop will include sharing of experiences, but also an interactive session where experts from the field will impart their skills to students and engage them in brain storming activities.
Objective and Modus Operandi of the event
The workshop along with an interactive session between eminent personalities from the field of Journalism/Law aims to create an awareness about legal journalism around the campus and provide an insight to the college students and compulsorily the members of media and newsletter committee about the nuances of reporting.
The event will be bifurcated into two parts. One will be an interactive session/ Panel Discussion between the guests of the day wherein the nuances of legal journalism and legal reporting will be discussed. We shall focus of different arenas of Legal Journalism like Law School Journalism, Court Journalism, growing need for legal personnel on TV etc. along with the current condition of Journalism in India and various concerns associated with it. It will serve the purpose of creating awareness among the students to a new career option.
As now, even a Journalist needs to be Law graduate.
The second part will be of legal journalism workshop which shall focus on building the writing and reporting skills of the students. We aim to cover issues like how to do legal reporting, what information should be there in a report. How to look for contents, how to build contacts in legal journalism field and how to tackle the challenge of online marketing.
Confirmed Speakers (till now)
Mr. Somsekhar Sunderasan, Head ( Securities and Regulatory Practices) , JSA, Mumbai is also an author with the Business Standard and a regular blogger at Indian Corporate Law blog, would be conducting a session on Legal Journalism and career prospects.
Mr. R Prasannan, Chief of Bureau, The Week, has been associated with one India’s leading reading insights The Week since 1982 and specializes in Defence and foreign affairs, shall be conducting a workshop on the language usage and skills used while reporting and writing.
Ajay Umat, Editor, Nav Gujarat Samachar, who earlier was associated with Times of India as Senior Editor and has been termed as most neutral reporter. He will be sharing his experiences from a different reporting perspective.
