Established through the UPES Act, 2003 of the State Legislature of Uttarakhand,University Of Petroleum And Energy Studies (UPES) is one of the top-ranked, UGC-recognized, private universities. As per the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2023, the Ministry of Education, India, UPES has been ranked 52, with a rank of 54 in engineering and a rank of 39 in management. In addition to this, the university has been ranked No. 1 private university in academic reputation in India by the QS World University Rankings 2024 and is among the top 3% universities in the world. UPES has also been accredited by NAAC with an accreditation grade ‘A’ and has received 5-Stars on Employability (placements), by globally acclaimed QS Rating, with 90%+ placements over the last few years.
UPES offers graduate and postgraduate programs through its eight schools: School of Advanced Engineering, School of Computer Science, School of Design, School of Law, School of Business, School of Health Sciences & Technology, School of Modern Media, and School of Liberal Studies with about 13,000 students and 1500+ faculty and staff members.
The Society for Constitutional Law and Human Rights (SCLHR), School of Law, University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES) are organizing UPES Law Festival, Vidhi Utsav, an annual gathering that provides a lively forum for academics and legal professionals to discuss and discover different aspects of the legal field in the form of competitions and symposium. SCLHR is excited to invite students to an esteemed platform to feature their upcoming event, “You, Amend Your Constitution!” This event is a unique opportunity for students to engage critically with constitutional law, proposing and defending constitutional amendments based on their insights and reasoning.
What Are The Details Of The Event?
- Event Name: “You, Amend Your Constitution!”
- Objective: The competition aims to encourage students to propose and defend constitutional amendments, fostering a deep understanding of constitutional law and human rights.
- Format: The competition comprises of two rounds, focusing on both the proposal of amendments (written drafts) i.e. Round 1 and their subsequent defence through an oral presentation for selected students i.e., Round 2.
- Kindly note that the Round 1 of the competition shall entertain 70 registrations only, on a first come first serve basis.
- Out of the registered teams, those who shall send the written submissions (online submissions- Round 1), 15 teams would get selected for oral rounds (offline presentation- Round 2). For further details, kindly take perusal of the brochure.
- Eligibility: Open to Students, Research Scholars, and PhD Candidates pursuing graduate and postgraduate degrees from any field of study.

- Registration Fee Details: A nominal Fee of Rs. 250 shall be charged
- Awards and Prizes:
- 1st Prize: ₹15,000 + Trophy
- 2nd Prize: ₹ 9,000 + Trophy
- 3rd Prize: ₹ 6,000 + Trophy
- * The aforementioned prizes would be based on the cumulative scores secured in both rounds
- Additional Awards include:
- Special Mention for Excellence in Drafting would be given to the student who scores the highest marks in the first round exclusively
- Special Mention for Outstanding Presentation would be given to the student who scores the highest marks in the second round exclusively.
- Certificates of Merit will be provided to the top 15 participants
- Note: Certificates of Participation will be provided to all the participants
- Important Dates:
- 20th February, 2024: Last date for Registration
- 20th March, 2024: Last date for Write-up submissions
- 28th March, 2024: Result Announcement for Round 1
- 6th April, 2024: Orals Round and Results
