About IIT MADRAS

Indian Institute of Technology Madras is a public engineering institute located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. As one of the Indian Institutes of Technology, it is recognised as an Institute of National Importance.

Shaastra is the annual technical festival of IIT MADRAS. It is a 3-day event held during the 1st week of January, which comprises of various contests, lectures, summits, conferences, workshop & many more interesting events.

About the Moot

The initiative of IP Law Moot court in Shaastra has been done in the year 2018 with an aim to judiciously combine technology & law. The moot last year received participation from some of the top law schools in India and was a success and this year we intend to scale up even further.

The previous edition of Moot conducted by Shaastra in association with Surana & Surana International Attorney and Anand & Anand as our knowledge partners, proved to be an enriching experience for the participants, owing to its challenging moot propositions and high standards of judging by the Honourable High Court Justices themselves.

Eligibility

The competition is open only for students who are enrolled in an LLB three year or five-year course during the current academic year. 16 teams will be selected on the basis of their memorials for participation

Team Size

Each team should consist of a minimum of 2 and maximum of 3 members. This number cannot be modified under any circumstances.

There shall be 2 speakers and 1 researcher designated for each team. The researcher shall be allowed to argue with the prior permission of the National Administrator in case of illness of the designated speakers.

Each team will be provided with a team code during orientation. Teams should not disclose the identity of their institution; such disclosure shall invite penalties including disqualification. The decision shall be at the discretion of the National Administrator.

Online registrations are open from 29th October 2019. The teams must register online by 24th November 2019. Teams will receive an automated system generated acknowledgement on successful submission of registration.

A scanned copy of the letter from the participating college/institution/university duly signed by anyone of the following:- Faculty-in-charge of MCS/MCA, Registrar, Principal, Dean, Director, Chancellor or Vice-Chancellor confirming the names of the participants, Year / semester in which studying, representing the college/institution/university for the moot competition will have to be attached during the online registration process (The approval letter shall be formatted on the letterhead of the participating institution/college/university. Alternatively, you may use the registration form itself as appended below as page 10 with the official seal).

Note: Registrations without the scanned copy of the approval letter from the college/institution/ university or duly attested registration form will not be valid.

oft copies of both Applicant & Respondent Memorials must be sent to mootcourt@shaastra.org with a copy to mootcourt@lawindia.com latest by 5.00 p.m. on 5th December 2019 for the purpose of evaluation and selection of participating teams. The soft copy must in the format of PDF and word document.

CONFIRMATION of teams based on the evaluation of memorials submitted will be on or before 15th December 2019, 5:00 PM.

Fee Details

After the submission of memorials. Confirmed teams have to pay a registration fee of Rs. 3900/Rs. 4500 through the Shaastra 2020 payment portal.
