Gender based discrimination represents the ugly face of the society. The issue is global with varying degree and very old. Occupational roles have been set in place and women choose their occupation based on spaces accessible to them. This could be clearly seen through the skewed women representation in higher education even in present times. The terms “sex” and “gender” are often used interchangeably in everyday life, but in sociological literature they are frequently differentiated. The term “sex” is applied to differences between men and women that are based on female or male attributes.
The term “gender” is applied to the cultural aspects of male and female roles. Sexuality and the different capacities of men and women in the reproductive process are particularly likely to be thought of as giving “natural” reasons for gender divisions in society.
The question of gender equality is a very old and burning issue. Illiteracy among women is declining, maternity, mortality and total fertility rates are beginning to fall, and more women are participating in the labor force than ever before. Persistent inequality between women and men constraints a society’s productivity and, ultimately, slows its rate of economic growth. Although this problem has been generally recognized, evidence on the need for corrective action is required.
The Seminar aims to serve as a platform for academicians, professionals, researchers and students to discuss and critically assess the concept of women disparity. It also aims to analyze the innovation and development of the concept and emerge with sustainable solutions in addressing the issues in modern day justice delivery mechanism.
