About the Organisation

Maharashtra National Law University Mumbai is a National Law University located at Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. It is the 18th National Law University established in India by The Maharashtra National Law University Act 2014, passed by Maharashtra Legislature under the Maharashtra Act No VI of 2014.

Arbitration has been on the rise across India as a preferred choice of dispute resolution. Owing to a cumulative effort from the judiciary, government and the practitioners, arbitration in India, for the first time in a number of years,
has been able to reach international standards.

About the Event

MNLU Mumbai’s Centre for Arbitration and Research (CAR) is organizing its very first-panel discussion on the topic ‘Where do we go from here? – Future of Institutional Arbitration in India post the 2019 Amendment’.

The Arbitration and Conciliation (Amendment) Act, 2019 introduced numerous changes in the arbitration scenario of the country with respect to the confidentiality of proceedings, time-limits, etc. However, the most significant change brought about was the introduction of the independent body called the Arbitration Council of India (ACI) for the promotion of arbitration, mediation, conciliation and other alternative dispute redressal mechanisms.

It is a unique independent regulatory body which is being touted as the next stimulus for the growth of institutional arbitration in India.

The Panel-Discussion

The panel discussion will feature eminent experts in the field of arbitration. The panel will be diversified to include experts
from different walks of the profession including an arbitrator, a practitioner, an academician and others. This will allow for a highly insightful and intensive discussion from various perspectives of the experts.
