- The State Legislature of Punjab by passing the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab Act 2006 (Punjab Act No. 12 of 2006) established the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), Punjab.
- The theme of the capacity Building Programme shall pertain to Cyber Laws, Cyber Security and Forensic Justice. In the age of advancing technologies and an interconnected world where everything is in the cyber sphere, laws and security concerns pertaining to the cyber world gain prominence.
- The laws governing the cyber sphere have many lacunas and need to be properly structured. The requirement of invocation of the Penal Laws, Contract Laws and other legislations signify that cyber laws have to be developed from scratch in a Country as large and diverse as India.
- There have been numerous crimes being committed and the majority of them go unreported.
- The users are exposed to numerous threats while surfing the internet, online financial frauds, crimes through social media and women-related crimes on the Internet have become very common. The understanding of forensic science and its application is significant for strengthening the criminal justice system.
- Forensic scientists are important stakeholders in our criminal justice administration who not only collect the evidence from the crime scene but also analyze them in order to assist the court in the justice delivery system.
- The aim of this Capacity Building Programme is to understand the nuances of forensic science and to impart this knowledge to the legal fraternity on a journey of holistic understanding of forensic science and law together to impactful deliver ensure that forensic justice is delivered.
