- Environmental Law Cell (ELC), one of the many cells/ centres of Symbiosis Law School, Hyderabad was established with the motto of incorporating a sense of responsibility towards the environment among students and creating awareness about each person’s individual responsibilities to contribute in the prevention of future degradation of the environment.
- Through the Cell, the members educate the students in campus and people off campus about the need for environment conservation and Sustainable Development through various activities like plantation drive, awareness camps, national seminars, webinars, jumble sale, competitions, etc.
- The National Debate Competition, titled “Green Debates”, is to be conducted on June 8, 2022 in furtherance of the World Environment Day. The event will be conducted in association with the Save Soil Initiative of the Isha Foundation.
- World Environment Day is one of the largest international environmental events. The event, which has been conducted annually since 1974 and is led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), has grown to be the greatest worldwide platform for environmental outreach, with millions of people from all over the world participating to safeguard the planet.
Eligibility
The competition is open to the students of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes from recognised institutions.
Themes
There are three themes for the debate, which will be as follows:
- “Soil pollution: The Issue Concerning All Aspects of Life.”
- “Renewable energy is an ideal replacement for fossil fuels.”
- “Noise pollution and Environmental Wellbeing: Striking a Balance.”
Fee Details
The competition is free and no registration fee is required to participate.
Perks
The winner and the runner up shall receive cash prizes. The winner shall win INR 2,000. The runners up shall win INR 1,000.
Submission Deadline
The last date and time for registration is June 7, 2022, 5 PM.
Location
Green Debates would be conducted through Microsoft Teams or Google meet.
