About the University:

Aliah University – a State University under the Department of Minority Affairs and Madrasah Education, Government of West Bengal – came into existence through the Aliah University Act (Act XXVII of 2007) passed by the West Bengal Legislative Assembly. The Act came into force on 5 April 2008. However, its parent institution – from which it was upgraded to a University – was usually mentioned in various old Government records varyingly as Calcutta Mohammedan College or Calcutta Madrasah or Aliah Madrasah, which the British Governor-General Warren Hastings established in 1780.

About the Department of Law:

The Department of Law was started in 2013. The Department aims to provide higher legal education with the overall grooming of the students. The post-graduation degree in law helps students better understand any dispute’s constitutional and jurisprudential aspects and provides profound clarity on the legal procedure. The Department offers Master of Law (LL.M.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) courses currently. There are 40 seats in the LL.M. course. The Department focuses on academic excellence and provides an educational and research environment where students can excel to the best of their abilities.

Overview:The Department of Law, Aliah University, Kolkata, is organizing a National-Level Seminar to address the evolution, current trends, and issues related to Constitutional rights. The seminar’s main goals are to examine recent significant developments in the Constitution of India and provide practical examples to enhance attendees’ understanding of specific aspects of it.

Objectives:The Seminar aims to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and perspectives on the Indian Constitution among educators, legal experts, practitioners, Human Rights activists, and individuals in their respective fields.

Who is it for?All students, academicians, research scholars, lawyers and other interested candidates are eligible to participate in the seminar.

Location:The seminar will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Aliah University, Park Circus Campus, 17 Gora Chand Road, Kolkata—700014.
