About the Conference
The Criminal justice system is the set of agencies and processes established by the government with the objective of controlling the incident of crime in a society and penalizing the violation of the law. Criminal justice prevailing in any society can be considered as the reflection of society’s cherished values and policies, in substance the level of civilization attained by it. In the last few decades, globalization and technological advancements have posed particular challenges to criminal justice systems in terms of investigation of crime and question of jurisdiction.
Many committees and commissions have underlined the various shortcomings of Indian Criminal Justice in the form of procedural victimization, less conviction rates, and inadequacy to address the issues of vulnerable sections of the community such as women, children, and scheduled caste and scheduled tribes. In addition to these pre-existing shortfalls lockdown imposed due to covid 19 has underlined the inadequacies of our criminal justice system and its inability to deal with the new situation efficiently. It has worked as an eye-opener necessitating the need to introspect and find out new modalities and solutions to deal with the problems persisting in the system. Further, even though the pandemic has aggravated some of the problems regarding criminal justice administration, it is an undeniable truth that many problems such as procedural victimization, the hostility of witnesses, and the inability to address the needs of vulnerable section of the society which affected significantly the efficient administration of the criminal justice were and are prevailing.
It is with this objective, the Centre for Criminal Justice Administration of our college considered it necessary to have a brainstorming discussion regarding various problems prevailing in our criminal justice system and to find out solutions to deal with them in these changing times. With this objective, this conference is organized in which expert judges, lawyers, police officers, academicians in short various stakeholders of the system will give their insight to have a fruitful discussion.
