“Law School Journey” Till Now

DEEPALI SINGH

BBA-LLB(H),

Chanakya National Law University (CNLU), Patna

After one year of preparation and two months of speculation, calculation, anticipation, emotions- an almost torturous wait…finally I managed to get into CNLU, Patna…Chanakya National Law University, Patna, Bihar.

I still remember the first day, when I entered the campus- pre conceived notions engendered by the reviews from “popular” law websites, I was scared, the experience was rather unnerving… how will the college be, the seniors, teachers, classmates, infrastructure, environment and many more things. As I entered the college, prima facie the building was pretty nice, reasonably big campus- lush green; I opted for hostel so I was allotted a room with a room partner from Lucknow. Everybody in CNLU was very helpful and they appeared be happy to help a “fresher”- signature term…huh!?. I met so many people, new faces…we were being called for an intro sessions however the seniors term it as “positive interaction”. Next day, I went to the class…some teachers were really good and some were average, at least in my opinion. We were being given so many orientations about MCC (Moot Court Committee), Paradox, that’s the name of our debating society in CNLU- pretty cool, B- cell (Business Cell), Anti ragging cell and many more.

Well right now, I am almost halfway through law school, I have grown in many ways, positive growth (it’s a no brainer, not being biased though). Once you spend one and half years in college, one can realize how time passes- tempus fugit (as I was taught- Latin, the all important language for we law students). Me being a BBA-LLB student, had to study Management, Human Resource Management, Accounts, English, Research Methodology and Legal Methods, and one law subject i.e. Law of Torts. Academically, 1st semster or for that matter 1st year is comparatively easy. Thereafter, the law papers keep on increasing which will make studying in a law school much more interesting, well at least for me it did . From 2nd year, law school life becomes better as you will have law papers like…IPC, Personal laws etc included in the syllabus. I have come to realise, law school makes you much more efficient & effective- most of the people study during the penultimate night, just before the exam, even then manage to score decent grades.

Law school keeps you involved throughout the year as in one semester there will be four and half months, you would have to study, face surprise test, mid semester exam, then projects– presentations and finally end semester exams, and after these there will be a vacation of about 45 days in which you will be interning somewhere, which will directly or indirectly help you in growing up, obviously, applying laws practically in real life.

Lot of opportunities await in a national law school- you can moot, debate, write papers and get it published, present papers in seminars, be an active blogger at different sites enhancing your research skills, be a campus senators- which will help you to work with a group, increase your working capacity, inculcate leadership qualities in you and much more. It’s you, who has to decide what you to do, how much you have to do, and after 5 years of academic pursuance, where you want to see yourself. Like, I am interested in writing and researching, so in 3 semesters I managed to get 5 publications, presented two papers, one in HNLU Raipur and one in NUSRL Ranchi. I attended two workshops and I am blogger at different sites. I like mooting as well, you will be happy after being grilled badly by your judges-get to learn so much, the pride that you will feel when you put on the uniform for the first time- indescribably heavenly, I even participated in Henry Dunant Memorial Moot Competition, recently, and  learnt a lot there.

Life is all about learning something new daily and I am indeed happy that I joined a law school, in life, which is helping me to improve myself daily. Although I was never very sure about studying law, but after joining a national law school, I realized, it is a matter of immense pleasure to be considered a part of the legal fraternity.

 Keep Working: Keep growing.
