What Is JLI?

Law Centre-II made a humble beginning in the year 1971 at the premises of ARSD College, Dhaula Kuan to offer full-time LL.B. program. It has a glorious past of 50 years. The LL.B. classes were conducted in the evening and the alumni of Law Centre-II included top bureaucrats, police officers, military officers, teachers from different departments, chartered accountants, doctors, engineers, and other professionals.

Journal for Law and Justice (JLJ) is a flagship student-run journal of the Law Centre-II, Faculty of Law, University of Delhi, with the prime objective of promoting academic research and fostering legal acumen on contemporary legal issues. The publication of this legal journal of Law Centre – II is an earnest attempt to provide an effective research tool by sparking scholastic conversation among a diverse group of academicians, judges, jurists, practitioners, students, activists, scholars, and prominent thinkers.

What Are The Details Of The Opportunity?

  • Suggested Themes: The Call for Papers is open for the following topics:
    • Current issues of legal significance, both at the national and international levels,
    • Recent developments and judicial pronouncements in the field of law,
    • Comparative law and legal systems.
    • Interdisciplinary legal studies
  • Eligibility: The JLJ invites scholarly, original, unpublished articles, case notes and legislative comments, for its upcoming issue of Vol. I (2023) from legal scholars and researchers.
  • Submission Categories: Submissions can be in the form of following:
    • Long Articles (5000-8000 words): Submissions in this category are expected to engage with the theme and literature of a particular topic comprehensively. The article should identify significant lacunae and offer innovative reassessment along with constructive suggestions.
    • Short Articles (3000-5000 words): Submissions in this category are expected to engage with the theme, and must be written in a concise and clear manner.
    • Case Notes and Legislative Comments (1500-3000 words): Notes and Comments must trace the line of cases in which the decision appears and comment on its implications on the evolution of that branch of law. Similarly, a legislative comment or policy proposal must identify the object and expected impact of the legislative action/policy proposal in question.
  • Submission Guidelines:
    • All submissions must contain the following:
    • The manuscript should be in Word format (.doc or .docx) as a mail attachment. PDF/other formats/hard copy submissions will not be accepted.
    • The body of the email must mention
      • Name of the author(s);
      • Designation of author(s);
      • Institutional affiliation;
      • Contact number(s);
      • Title of the paper.
    • Type of submission and
    • A declaration to the following effect: “I/we declare that the manuscript is an original and previously unpublished work written by me/us. I/we agree to tackle any dispute relating to my/our manuscript including copyright, defamation, or contempt, and agree to suffer the loss, if any, caused by violating copyright or any other rights.”
    • For co-authored papers, details of both authors should be given in the body of the email.
    • Co-authorship is not allowed for Notes and Comments.
    • Any form of plagiarism will lead to disqualification for publication in the Review.
    • However, a maximum of up to 20% of plagiarism is allowed.
  • Format Guidelines:
    • The first page of the manuscript should only contain the title of the paper followed by 200-250 words abstract. The second page should commence with the main body of the manuscript.
    • Submissions should be in Times New Roman, font size 12 with 1.5 line spacing, justified text, and 1-inch margins on all sides of the A4 sheet.
    • Footnotes in Times New Roman typeface, font size 10, with 1.0 line spacing. All headings must have uniform formatting.
    • Footnotes should be placed at the end of the quotation or sentence. When referring to a specific word or phrase, the footnote number should be placed directly after the word or phrase.
    • Footnotes should conform to the 21st Edition of The Bluebook ‘Uniform System Of Citation’ Rules.
    • Please note that submissions with endnotes will be rejected.
    • For submissions involving empirical research, authors must submit relevant datasets along with the article.
    • All headings must have uniform formatting.
  • Mode of Submission: The full manuscript may be emailed to jlj.lc2.fol.du@gmail.com under the subject heading ‘JLJ Vol. I Submission’. Authors intending to contribute to Volume I of the JLJ should send the full manuscript by October 31, 2023, 11:59 p.m. IST. Articles and Case Notes/Legislative Comments must be accompanied by an abstract not exceeding 200-250 words.
  • Submission Deadline: 31st October 2023
  • Important Note:
    • All works must be original and unpublished, and must not be pending for review before any other journal. Any form of plagiarism will result in immediate disqualification.
    • A maximum of two authors are allowed for submission. 
    • While authors are advised to adhere to the word limits of each category, the journal may be flexible on the word limit depending on the quality of the article. 
    • Authors are encouraged to submit manuscripts on current legal issues. Pieces scrutinizing sub-judice matters will be preferred. 
    • Authors are requested to employ gender-neutral language as much as possible. 
    • The decision on the acceptance of the manuscript for publication vests with the JLJ Editorial Board, which is final.
    • The Editorial Board of the journal shall conduct a strict editorial review of the submissions and retains absolute discretion with respect to the acceptance/rejection of articles.
    • Upon submission, the manuscript shall be the property of Law Centre-II, Faculty of Law, University of Delhi. Henceforth, articles accepted for publication may be cross-published/republished. Such cross-publishing/republishing shall not require the prior consent of the author(s).
