Position Location: India
Position Objective: To assist MFA’s legal advocacy efforts in India by advocating on behalf of farmed animals and ensuring the organization’s legal compliance in all aspects of its operations
Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
- Provide legal support to the investigations department by conducting necessary legal research into all relevant laws and regulations and addressing any legal issues arising during the course of investigations
- Assist in the organization’s requests for criminal prosecutions of animal abusers by reviewing investigative footage, drafting legal petitions, and meeting with and assisting law enforcement
- Work to advance farmed animal interests through legislation
- Undertake thorough and accurate legal review of corporate campaign materials
- Research, develop, and implement proactive legal initiatives, including lawsuits, petitions, and complaints to government agencies
- Draft and review contracts, leases, and other legal documents
- Assist the general counsel with governmental compliance and labor and employment issues
- Handle any other legal issues that may arise during the day-to-day operations of the organization
- Develop and maintain close working relationships with other animal protection organizations and attorneys in private practice
- Follow all human resource and operational procedures
- Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor
Position Requirements:
- Law degree from an accredited law school
- Preferred minimum of five years’ experience practicing law
- Fluency in English and Hindi
- Thorough knowledge of animal rights legal issues and MFA’s campaigns preferred
- Demonstrated ability to address and overcome problems and negotiate with third parties
- Strongly preferred ability to conduct press conferences and interviews with media
- Proven exceptional organizational and writing skills
- Ability to work well in a team setting
- Outstanding interpersonal skills
- Willingness and ability to travel on short notice
- Professional appearance and adherence to a vegan lifestyle
