Centre for Responsible Business (CRB) was established in 2011 as a think-tank to pursue its vision, ‘businesses integrate sustainability into their core business practices. CRB has adopted a model of engaging multiple stakeholders to develop action plans for promoting sustainable/responsible business, across various sectors in India.

About the Role

The candidate will essentially be undertaking action and policy research, stakeholder engagements, capacity building, and related activities on business and human rights involving businesses and other stakeholders. It is therefore important that the candidate has prior experience of working in the area and is well versed with the policy and operational aspects of business and human rights, including international literature and practice. The work will be a combination of desk work and travel.

Key Responsibilities

Research and Analysis

  • Undertake research and provide technical inputs
  • Assist in field-work, including data collection, collation, and analysis
  • Undertake and present analytical work in a coherent manner for the purpose of developing a study and or report

Support in Coordination and Organization

  • Co-ordinate programmatic activities including fieldwork, meetings, events, capacity building activities
  • Support in the organization of training and events
  • Identify and engage with key stakeholders including government, businesses, industry associations, research institutions, civil society, labor organizations, experts, etc.

Knowledge Management

  • Ensure proper project documentation and filing
  • Write project reports and maintain a record of meetings

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • Education: Degree in Law/Developmental Studies/Labour and Employment/Sustainable Business or related subjects
  • Experience: 2-5 years (a minimum of 2 years) in any of the fields of human rights (experience in due diligence preferred), socio-economic development, sustainable business, ESG reporting and disclosures, SDGs, international and national laws and conventions pertaining to labor/workers, community rights/development, etc.
  • The candidate is required to have a good knowledge and experience of business and human rights issues, human rights regulations, and policy frameworks.

Skills and Competencies Required

  • Excellent research and analytical skills
  • Proficiency in oral and written communication skills (English, Hindi, and 1 or more Vernacular languages would be desirable)
  • Adept at using MS Office
  • Ability to deliver under tight timelines
  • Team player
  • Availability to perform duties (if needed) beyond normal working hours
  • Sound conceptual knowledge of business responsibility, UNGPs, business, and human rights
