About the Opportunity
UN Women in partnership with other UN Agencies is implementing a programme titled ‘Protection of Women and Girls from Sexual and Gender Based Violence in times of COVID 19’ to prevent and respond to SGBV by scaling up and strengthening the ongoing interventions, given the impact of COVID-19. The programme interventions are anchored in the UN’s Human Rights approach and will fully consider the specific situations, perspectives, priorities and needs of women and girls in India.
In this context, UN Women seeks to hire a consultant to carry out awareness trainings on The Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act 2005 (DV Act hereinafter), The Sexual Harassment of Women at the Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act 2013 (SH Act hereinafter), The Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act 1956 and related legislations (Trafficking – laws and legislations hereinafter) in select states.
Position: Consultant to Conduct Virtual Trainings on “Gender-Based Laws” for Select States
Duties and Responsibilities
The Consultant will be responsible for the following:
- Develop state specific session plans for the workshop and corresponding tools to carry out virtual trainings for the Government Officials and functionaries of select states on women specific legislation including but not limited to the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act (2005), The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, laws relating to Trafficking, Witch Hunting, Acid regulations etc.
- Carry out training sessions on women specific legislations in the context of COVID19 Pandemic.
- Building knowledge and skill of participants to support to the survivors of sexual and gender-based violence through women specific legislations indicated above.
- Documenting the training workshop and prepare a detailed report of each training including the list of participants and change in learning outcomes.
Educational Qualification Required
- Essential: Bachelor of Laws (LLB) is required.
- Desirable: Master of Laws (LLM)/master’s in development studies/gender studies/social sciences
Experience Required
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience in law and justice, of which 3 years should preferably be in capacity building programs and activities with various Central/State government.
- Previous demonstrable experience in training on women related laws (preferably on The DV Act, The SH Act and Trafficking – laws and legislations) is required.
- Knowledge of conducting online sessions/meetings and other platforms would be required.
- Experience of working on gender related issues, desirable.
- Experience of working in the development sector, desirable.
- Demonstrate ability to meet assignment deadlines with minimal supervision.
