You need to apply to kolkataoffice@sksinghiandco.com.

They generally prefer students from 3rd year onwards.

Once the internship is confirmed you will receive a mail regarding the duration of the internship. However you need to apply well in advance as they have limited slots for interns at a time.

Duration of Internship and Timings

3 weeks. 11th July 2017- 31st July 2017.

Monday to Friday: 10.00 am to 7.00 pm.

Saturday: 10.00 am to 4.00 pm.

First Impression, First Day Formalities, Infrastructure

I had to report by 9.30 am, after which I had to meet Mr. Ankur Singhi, who is the Co-Founder and Senior Partner of the firm who was my internship guide who was very cooperative and encouraging. After a brief introduction he asked me about my area of interest and assigned me work accordingly.

They are quite strict about dress and the interns had to adhere to court room dress code except on Saturdays.

The office is spread across two floors. The library has a decent collection of books and meets your needs effectively.

Main Tasks

The kind of work assigned to interns completely depends on the senior under whom he or she is assigned. I had to do a variety of drafting work such as drafting of written statement for DRT matters, arbitration matters, filing of RTI Applications, filing applications for renewal of patents.

I was assigned to work on the legal points and researched on various aspects relating to the Securitization and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Security Interest Act, 2002, Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016, Companies Act, 2013, Limited Liability Partnership Act, 2008, Trademarks Act, 1999, Patents Act, 1970, Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996 and Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999.

I was also asked to prepare list of dates and synopsis of the cases that were assigned to me. I had to go to various courts and tribunals like the High Court at Calcutta, City Civil Court, Debt Recovery Tribunals and National Company Law Tribunal regularly to learn the procedure of working of such courts and tribunals.

After coming back to office I was asked to prepare a synopsis report on the learning from such visits.

Work Environment, People

All the advocates are really helpful and approachable.

Also, Mr Singhi who was my guide necessarily asked questions regarding the work assigned. Hence it’s quite an engaging procedure.

However there is no dearth for work and you will keep getting work as and when the previous assignment is completed. He will make sure that you are not left without anything on any given day.

Good Things

The amount of readings that are assigned to the interns is quite enriching. Also, the numerous times tea and coffee that is served everyday is a perfect refreshment after a tiring day of work.

Overall it was indeed a very good and enriching experience. It might not be a tier-I firm but it gives a really good opportunity especially to those who are looking forward to learn and make the most out of such internships. Given a chance, I would really look forward to working with them again.

Bad things

No such bad things that I noticed.

Stipend

Yes, INR 4,500/- per month.
