“So it’s Sunday evening just a day before our Independence day while I was looking outside my hostel window watching the sunset and the last sun rays coming down just to touch the mother earth and spreading it’s last shadow on the sea, mountains and all the creatures present. Then someone suddenly knocks the door of my room and it’s my roommate with a packet of ginger made tea and samosa in his hand. And then the story continues from a daily routine talks and I intentionally raised the topic asking him, Bhaiyya – what are your views on India’s Independence till now? And then the discussion takes place between us”.
‘Arise, awake, and stop not till the goal is reached’
Swami Vivekananda
In today’s world we have become so lazy because whatever we need, it’s on our doorstep and if we want to travel anywhere we have several modes of transportation facility just by a click of mouse, Have you ever imagined? what might been our country condition seventy years ago when we got freedom from the hands of britisher’s who ruled over us for 259 years, and who came up here just with the idea of trading in the India as we were rich in natural resources, spices, trades routes etc.
It took 2 years 11 months 18 days to form our constitution which is rigid as well as flexible in nature because during non-emergency period it is rigid but during it’s emergency period it becomes flexible so it can be changed as per the circumstances which reflects the sterling mind of the constituent makers who thought to their extremes while drafting the grundnorm of our country even where the preamble of our country cannot be amended even applying the Article 368 of Constitution of India[1] as the basic structure of our constitution i:e Preamble of India cannot be changed or amended but can only be additions to it.
If in today’s scenario, “if a poor boy or girl asks his/her father that he/she wants to do further study he cannot stop him/her from doing it but before our country independence, they wouldn’t have the same situation. As now our country is developing so is its people and as our government says “Padega India Tabhi to aage badega india” which shows that government is also taking its much emphasis in educating its people and also certain program which were in operation in order to educate the girl child in various rural area and also such as Sukanya Samriddhi Scheme, launched last month, is aimed at encouraging people to save for girl child’s education and marriage. There are great woman leaders who have held the most eminent position such as Indira Gandhi (First Woman Prime Minister), Pratibha Devsingh Patil (First Woman President), Kalpana Chawla(First woman Indian Astronaut), Chhavi Rajawat (First Woman Sarpanch) etc. There are other laws such as juvenile justice act 2015[2] commenced from 15th January 2016 where the age of minor while he commits any heinous offence is reduced from 18 years to 16 years which shows that how our judiciary has become so active in its work then there is Sexual Harassment Act 2013 where for the first time the court interpreted the meaning of ‘Sexual Harassment” where earlier we used to refer CEDAW(Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women ) passing of Goods and Service Tax, Act 2016 which proves to be a great help to companies as well as to consumers, Insolvency And Bankruptcy Code 2015[3] which reduced the investment of black money somewhere else helping in recovery of bank loans improving the business environment and alleviating the distressed credit market etc. These changes are of much importance which really helped the India to compete itself in the world of global market whether it is in the terms of business or ensuring justice to its citizens.
Being known as ‘The Land Of Seven Rivers’[4] written by Sanjeev Sanyal in his book where he describes the brief history of Indian Geography. Whenever we talk about rivers the first of all which comes in our mind is the river Ganga which has been given the title of a holy river in the hindu mythology and other important rivers such as Narmada, Godavri, Mahanadi, Son, Baes, Yamuna, Chenab, kaveri, Krishna etc. There are programs which are being run by certain NGO’s to maintain sanity of these rivers to prevent them from the major problems which India is facing such as pollution etc. which even though not harmful to the humans but to other living organisms existing. Of which one major reason of having it is large number population and sign of selfishness from the people who are not thinking sustainable development and therefore the programs like Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan which is initiated by our Prime Minister Narendra Modi and as well as planting of more trees so that people can stop playing with the nature and start caring for the nature because if this nature may get heavy on us it will lead to those natural calamities for which one can hardly think of such as earthquakes ,cyclones and tsunamis.
As we can see now, our country has build good cordial relations with the other countries such as Russia, USA, Israel ,Afghanistan, France, Bhutan, Bangladesh etc. who have taken stand for India whenever India faced any trouble. India also enjoys strong military relations with the several other countries including UK ,USA , Japan, Singapore, Brazil, South Africa ,Italy and in addition to it. India also operates an air base in Tajikistan signed a landmark defense accord with quarter in 2008 and has leased out assumption island from Seychelles to built a naval base in 2015.India has also forged relation with developing country specially South Africa, Brazil, Mexico, these country often represent interest of the developing countries through economic forums such as G8+5 submit, IBSA and WTO. India secures fourth position in defense force all over the world as now India’s defense system
At the end of the seventh decade of freedom, the big picture of Indian democracy is that when we compare it with the past to its present it has reached to its horizon but yet it has to achieve sky which is now largely stable. What needs fixing is the plumbing or rewriting the spirit of the Constitution to reflect current priorities, strengthening institutional autonomy, and devolving power even below the level of states to cities and local bodies, which is where true choice and democracy thrive. Without this, we will remain a weak state. A weak state cannot deliver, even if the spirit is strong and willing[5].
