What Is Centre For Mediation And Negotiation, NULO?

The National Law University Odisha (NLUO) was established in the year 2009 under The National Law University Orissa Act, 2008 (Act 4 of 2008) passed by the Odisha State Legislature and commenced its academic activities in the academic year 2009-10. The University has received recognition from the University Grants Commission (UGC) under Section 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956, and has been receiving grants under the XIIth Plan. The degrees offered are recognised by the Bar Council of India. It is also an associate member of the UGC-INFLIBNET, and a participant in the National Knowledge Network under the Ministry of Information Technology and Communication, Government of India.

The Centre for Mediation and Negotiation is an initiative by the University to promote academic research on themes pertaining to the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). The Centre is particularly oriented towards the study of Mediation and Negotiation. The centre, apart from research tries to acquaint students with the working of various processes and plans on organising various events like Faculty Development Programmes (FDPs), seminars, training workshops, diploma and certificate courses on ADR to promote practical learning. The long-term aim of the centre remains to inculcate in students, the faculty of mediation and negotiation and enhance their communication skills. It thus looks forward to extensive collaborations with institutions, both professional and academic, engaged in this new field.

Since its establishment in 1996, the Global Alliance for Justice Education (GAJE) has been dedicated to promoting justice through education. GAJE has organized ten Worldwide Conferences on justice education to date, held in various countries including India, South Africa, Poland, Argentina, Philippines, Spain, Turkey, Mexico, and Indonesia. GAJE’s commitment to fostering global partnerships and knowledge sharing has resulted in a multitude of initiatives and publications that contribute to justice education worldwide. What Are The Details Of The Event?

  • Themes: Participants may choose from the following themes for their paper presentations:
    • Alternative Dispute Resolution
    • Importance of Communication in Mediation
    • Multi-tiered Arbitration
    • International Commercial Mediation
    • Mediation in Matrimonial Disputes
    • Mediation and Labour Law
    • Mediation and IPR Disputes
  • Eligibility: They invite interested researchers, academicians, and policymakers from Indian and foreign institutions to submit their papers for presentation at the conclave.
  • Date of the event: 9th-13th August
  • Publication opportunity: Selected papers will also have the opportunity to be published in the subsequent editions of the NLUO ADR e-Newsletter.
  • Submission Guidelines:
    • Submissions should be in the form of articles. The acceptable word limit should not be breached i.e., 3000-4500 words.Abstract must contain central research question and research design along with the proposed title and keywords (not more than 350 words).
    • Co-authorship is permissible for the manuscripts, but the number of co-authors must not exceed two.
    • All manuscripts must be original works of the authors. Plagiarized content beyond 15% will not be eligible for publication.
    • Time Duration for Paper Presentation: 15 minutes in total, i.e., 12 minutes for presentation and 3 minutes for questions & answers, and comments.
  • Submission Process: To submit your manuscripts for the GAJE-NLUO Mediation & Negotiation Conclave, please follow the guidelines below:
    • Save your manuscript in .doc/.docx format using Microsoft Office 2007 or a newer version.
    • Send your manuscript as an email attachment to cmn@nluo.ac.in.
    • Use “Submission—GAJE-NLUO Mediation & Negotiation Conclave” as the subject line of
      your email.
    • Make sure to send your manuscript only to the specified email address mentioned above.
  • Deadline for submissions: Papers must be submitted by 6th August, 2023 to the email address provided above. However, papers will only be entertained if payment guidelines have been followed and proof of payment has been provided. Papers submitted without payment will not be considered.
  • Payment Guidelines: To register for the conclave, a nominal registration fee will be charged.
    • The registration fee is INR 350 (4.24 USD) for single-authored papers and,
    • INR 650 (7.65 USD) for co-authored papers.
