About the Discussion

This event will gauge a discussion on the recent incident of the resignation of Professor Vipin Veetil from IIT Madras due to the alleged caste-based discrimination. This incident is a distressing reminder of the prevalent upper-caste violence in institutions which pushes individuals from the DBA community to take drastic steps for the sake of their sanity and protection.

Prof. Bhanu Pratap’s exit from Ashoka University has become a national sensation, whereas the media attention given to the aforementioned incident is much less than what it warrants.

To this extent SPAC and LawSoc have planned on organizing a panel discussion on Casteism in Academia: A Discussion on Institutional Discrimination and Denial Through the lens of DBA Faculty. The panel will be discussing the Institutional Discrimination in Indian Universities towards faculty, representation in academia, and other such relevant issues.

The event will be led by Dr. Sumit Baudh, Dr. Kancha Ilaiah Shepherd, Dr. Anandita Pan, and Dr. M. Parthasarathi.

The speakers will give their points of view for 15-20 minutes, followed by a quick question and answer session.
