About UPES
The University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES) is the first Indian Energy University which aims at providing domain-specific professionals at the graduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels from the management, engineering and legal sector, respectively.
About the Debate
The Debate is brought forward by Difficult Dialogues which is an annual 3-day forum based on themes of contemporary relevance in South Asia, with a defined focus. It is a festival of topical ideas and motions and draws its energy from the conviction that knowledge sharing is the foundation of progress in this rapidly growing society.
This year Difficult Dialogues brings the National Rounds through Debating Society of University of Petroleum and Energy Studies.
Daring Debates is a one-of-a-kind debate series which aims to bring students from varied backgrounds and regions in the discourse of critical issues that includes South Asia in general and India in particular.
Daring Debate is an initiative to promote student participation in the overall process of policy ideation and formation and to ensure their opinions reach various stakeholders in the gamut.
The debate competition follows the system of conventional debating. The debaters participating place their constructive in a continuous speech. It enables the participant to elaborate their stand on the respective themes and facing a panel of judges, in rebuttals. This also provides them with a platform to enhance their debating experience.
The conventional debate competition shall consist of three rounds- Preliminary round (Qualifiers), State Charters and International Round.
ROUND ONE: THE QUALIFYING ROUND: Two students of the University will be selected to represent their respective colleges.
ROUND TWO: Uttarakhand Charter: A cap of 15-20 teams is set, and selection will be on the applications submitted by the respective colleges. Two participants qualifying for the Final Round shall be decided by the organizing committee on the recommendation of a panel of judges based, which would be intimated after the closure of registration on 20th September. The topic(s) for the Final Round shall not be disclosed earlier and shall be declared after the colleges submit their two representatives. Judging Criteria will be briefed to participants on the venue itself.
ROUND THREE: The Final Round will be held in Goa on an International platform with
participation from around the globe.
Submission Details
- The registration amount is Rs. 1000, per team, without accommodation (Includes Welcome Kit and High Tea refreshments); and Rs. 1000 per person additional for accommodation.
- Kindly register by 20th September 2019 to avoid last-minute hassles. You will receive a registration confirmation mail after registration is completed successfully.
- For Registration, an official email is circulated to the debating societies of colleges in Uttarakhand and student submissions will be provided by Debating society of their respective colleges. In other cases, one may also register by contacting on the details given below.
- Payment mode details shall be intimated to the participants, after successful completion of registration.
