OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME
The Criminal Justice System (CJS) is to ensure a just, peaceful and safe society, functions in a framework of the criminal law. The efficacy of the CJS depends a great deal on sound understanding and application of the criminal law by all those who are working in its sub-system namely advocates, Police, Prosecutors, Judges, prison officials as well as researchers in this field. Therein lies the importance of LL.M/M.A. program both for in-service personnel as well as those who are aspired to make career in C.J.S. and allied organizations.
Sardar Patel University of Police, Security and Criminal Justice is a unique initiative to foster the creation of new knowledge in the domains of Criminal Law, Criminal justice, Public safety, Security and related areas as well as to provide a forum for engagement between field practitioners and researchers for generating new knowledge and innovations. The Act of the University mandates it to encourage and prepare the youth of the nation to become responsible citizens, effective and efficient personnel in the above mentioned fields.
In the light of this the LLM/MA (Criminal Laws) offers a unique and distinct opportunity to study criminal law in National, International and Transnational context. This programme provides a holistic analysis of the Criminal law, Procedure and Criminal justice through an analysis of the law, its philosophical underpinnings and its operation in practice in constantly changing environment. This course offers the opportunity for broader or deeply specialized study with innovative research. The innovative focus and unique areas of study, allow individual to develop ability to critically appraise the current approaches and contemporary issues relating to contemporary crimes and the Criminal law.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION FOR ADMISSION
- For M. (Criminal Law) Degree Course of study shall be open to those candidates
- who have passed the Three Year LL.B. Degree Examination of any UGC recognized University or Institution after Graduation under 10+2+3 pattern; or
- Five Year LL.B. Degree Course under 10+2+5 pattern as is recognized by this University as equivalent for the purpose of LL.M. Degree Course and have secured not less than 55% marks in aggregate in the LL.B. Examinations.
- For M.A. (Criminal Law) Degree Course of study shall be open to in service persons of law enforcement agencies having five year experience in service and graduation degree with 55% marks in aggregate.
POSTGRADUATE ENTRANCE TEST
- For the LL.M. degree aspirants the University shall conduct Postgraduate Entrance Test (PET) for each academic session. Admission shall be made according to merit in the PET subject to the fulfilment of eligibility requirement as determined by the University and availability of seats in LL.M. Course.
- For M.A. degree aspirants, the admission shall be based on merit and same shall be calculated on candidates’ performance on essay type question, academic, research and professional credentials.
INTAKE
- 20 Seats (10 seats in each LL.M. + M.A.)
- If any seat/s shall remain vacant from any category, same shall be filled from other category.
- Minimum 50% students of total sanctioned seats e. 10 students are required to start the programme.
RESERVATION OF SEATS
- As per Government rules
- If any seat/s shall remain vacant from any reserve category, same shall be filled by general category.
