What Is USLR, University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS)?

University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS), Chandigarh was established as a Constituent Department of Panjab University, Chandigarh in the year 2004-05. Students from various socio-economic, cultural, and religious backgrounds come to UILS, Panjab University, Chandigarh from all parts of India. Since its foundation in 2004, it has shaped outstanding professionals and legal scholars who serve as an embodiment of the academic prowess in UILS. The Department has created a multidisciplinary, integrative framework for studying law and justice. To create highly qualified international legal professionals, the Department provides distinctive five-year integrated undergraduate programs including B.Com. L.Lb. (Hons.), B.A. L.Lb. (Hons.) and two postgraduate courses – LLM (one year) and LLM (two years).

The UILS Student Law Review (USLR) is a referred and peer-reviewed bi-annual journal published by the Student Editorial-Board of University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh. The Journal seeks to publish quality submissions on issues of contemporary legal relevance. It also promotes a healthy debate with a hint of critical thinking, so as to prepare talented writers for their future journey. Being the inaugural edition of the journal, we are looking forward to receive submissions exploring nuanced aspects of law that contribute to the legal discourse.
The Board invites submissions in various categories such as articles, book reviews and legislative comments to enable the promotion of different styles of writing. The Editorial- Board shall also give feedback and suggestions to the authors so as to better their understanding in diverse fields of law, thereby promoting a vibrant culture of legal writing.

What Are The Details Of The Opportunity?

  • Eligibility: The USLR is inviting submissions from academicians, practitioners, legal professionals, research scholars and students for its inaugural edition on any contemporary legal issue.
  • Submission Category:
    • Articles: An article must be descriptive in nature, providing a comprehensive analysis of the issue. It should be between 3,000 to 5,000 words.
    • Case Comments: A case comment must contain a succinct analysis of a recent judicial pronouncement or a landmark case. It should be between 1,500 to 3,000 words.
    • Legislative Comments: A legislative comment must seek to undertake a detailedscrutiny of a proposed Bill, Act or legislation. It should be between 1,500 to 3,000 words.
    • Book Reviews: A book review may be given on any book related to law. The word limit for the same is within 1500-3000 words.
  • Last date to submit: 23rd November 2023
  • Co-authorship: Co-authorship of not more than two authors is permitted.
  • Submission Guidelines:
    • Every submission must contain an abstract of not more than 300 words. Failure to comply with this rule would lead to summary rejection of the submission.
    • All submissions made to the USLR shall be original. Submissions exceeding 10%plagiarism limit shall be summarily rejected.
    • The Review follows an exclusive-submission policy, wherein the submission must not be published or under review by another journal, law review or blog. As a condition of publication, the authors grant the Journal an irrevocable, transferable, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to reproduce, publish and distribute their submission(s) in all media including but not limited to print and any electronic services. The license is granted for the duration of the subsistence of the copyright including any extensions and /or renewals.
    • The manuscript must not contain any information relating to the identity of the author(s). A cover-letter containing the details of the author(s), namely their institutional affiliation, designation and contact information must be attached in a separate document along with the submission.
    • Although articles shall be subject to a rigorous review process, the accuracy of quotations, titles, names, dates, charts, tables, footnotes, conclusion and recommendations etc. is solely the responsibility of the author(s).
    • No fee shall be charged at any stage of the publication process.
