What Is Asian Institute of Alternative Dispute Resolutions AIADR?

Asian Institute of Alternative Dispute Resolutions (AIADR) was incorporated on 17 April 2018 as a Not-for-Profit Company Limited by Guarantee, in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. AIADR is the first not-for-profit member-based Asian Institution for the development and advancement of ADR forums. AIADR is dedicated to promoting the practice of ADR through affordable and accessible education and development of the profession commencing from the Asian and African Continents and reaching out across the globe.

The AIADR Mediation Competition 2024 is now open for Registration. Participate in this international competition to elevate your expertise and broaden your knowledge of mediation. The AIADR Mediation Competition is a student competition that aims to raise awareness of mediation in investor-state disputes. The Competition is designed to simulate real-life mediation scenarios, allowing students to engage in a practical mediation setting. Participants will be evaluated solely on their performance in this Competition, with no written submission requirements. Preliminary Rounds are online and the semi-final and the final round are in-person.

What Are The Details Of The Opportunity?

  • Eligibility: Only full-time or part-time Students at the time of registration are eligible to participate in the competition.
  • One Team shall consist of 5 Participants and may comprise Students from the same or different institutions. The Coaches of the Teams can observe the rounds where their Team is competing, provided they inform the AIADR Secretariat at least 3 days in advance of the preliminary round/semi-finals.
  • General Details: The Competition shall be conducted in English language.
  • The AIADR Mediation Rules 2020 shall apply to this Competition unless expressly provided otherwise.
  • Should there be any conflicting directions between the AIADR Mediation Rules and the Rules, the Rules regulated herein shall supersede.
  • Each Team shall have 1 acting as Mediator, 1 requesting team and 1 responding team.
  • The requesting and responding team shall consist of 1 Client and 1 Legal Counsel.
  • The Team members, except the Mediator, may freely rotate the role among themselves.
  • General Rules:
  • The Competition will consist of two Mediation Problems throughout the entire competition. One Mediation Problem will be used for the Preliminary Rounds, and another one will be utilized for the Semi-Final and Final rounds.
  • The Mediation Problem for the Semi-Final and Final rounds will only be released after the conclusion of the Preliminary Rounds.
  • The Mediation Problem is supplemented with Confidential Information. The Confidential Information will be circulated to the Negotiation Team a day before the preliminary round. For Semi-Finals and Finals, it will be circulated an hour prior to the round.
  • The Confidential Information given to each team will differ and must not be shared with anyone other than the participants of your own responding or requesting team.
  • Teams may request clarifications of the Mediation Problem by emailing the request to aiadr.pdec@aiadr.world.
  • Prizes:
  • The Team that wins the final round will receive the AIADR Mediation Competition Trophy together with an award.
  • An award will also be given to the first runner-up and second runner-up in the competition.
  • Teams that made it to the semi-finals will be invited to a Networking Dinner with the Judges.
  • Special Prizes will be awarded for individual performances in the following categories:
  • Best Mediator
  • Best Negotiation Teams
  • Creative Solution Award
  • All Teams will receive a certificate of participation.
