Law As A Career By Debajyoti Saha, Law Student, Online Intern@ LawOF

My story of choosing law as a course of study for career is very intriguing in the manner that I did not know about the five-year law course till the mid of my 11th Standard. After securing 95% in 10th standard, I was thinking of taking commerce. But my parents insisted that I pursue science so that if I want to pursue any other stream at a later point of time, then it would not be much difficult for me. After all deliberations, I took science in my plus two. The first thing that I heard was about the IIT coaching centres where students were taking admissions in flocks. But I decided to take normal coaching mainly focusing on the academic subjects. In the mid of my 11th standard, I understood that IIT or AIEEE was not my cup of tea. I was having difficulty in understanding physics though I liked Maths and Chemistry. At that time, a friend of my mother suggested me of the law course. I started my own research on this new field regarding entrance exams and the coaching centres for the same.

Though I had interest in law at the back of my mind, I was adamant on scoring good marks in the 12th Board so that it would help to enter few law colleges where good grades were required. After that, I realised that I need preparation for the law entrance exams. I decided to take one year break against my will of my parents. My elder sister supported me in taking the decision. I feel that the one year interval played a huge role in my life which taught me a lot of things, for example, how to cope up with the different kind of people etc. At one time, I went into depression as my peers had already taken admission in different courses. At that time, the person who stood by my side was my elder sister who had firm belief in me. She encouraged me to work hard and made me appear for numerous number of mock tests before appearing for the law entrance exams. She helped me in filling the admission forms of different colleges. After the entrance exams also, she stood beside me. At the end, I enetered School of Law, Christ University.

Therefore, I can say that accidentally, I landed myself in the field of law. But whatever decisions I had taken till now has turned correct. Rest all depends on my hard work and perseverance.
