NALSAR is organizing GIAN Course on Empirical Legal Studies in Law and Psychology.


Overview:

The focus of this course is interactions between individuals and the state through the lens of legal psychology. Students will learn to identify risks to justice in the individual-state relationship (e.g., bias, erroneous assumptions, systemic or institutional weaknesses) and will examine evidence-based measures to manage those risks. Using interdisciplinary materials, law students will become acquainted with applications of the psycho-legal empirical evidence base to analyse law in action and support legal reforms. Each lecture examines current issues and debates in a particular domain, e.g., criminal law, mental health law, family law. Each topic is examined in five ways to develop a legally integrated and comprehensive consideration of the impact of evidence-based approaches across the range of legal practice.

Dates:

2nd to 16th September, 2017. Number of participants for the course will be limited to Sixty (60). However effort will be made to constitute a class from all of the below mentioned callings.

Who can attend:
  • You are a lawyer, prosecutor, police investigator,
  • You are a human rights, child rights or women rights activist,
  • You are a counsellor, therapist or,
  • You are a student or faculty from an academic institution interested in comprehending the interphase between law and psychology.
Registration Procedure:

Please go to the GIAN website at http://www.gian.iitkgp.ac.in/ and look for course registration and participants login. Look for register for new user sign up. Enter your details as required by the website and submit after making payment of Rs.500/-(Rupees Five hundred only) as directed on the site. Registration at the GIAN site is mandatory. After you register at this site, the course coordinator will select the participants and inform them about the further process of registration. After registration at Gian site, please send an email to the Course Coordinator: amitadhanda@nalsar.ac.in with your details i.e. name, affiliation and contact numbers.

Registration Fees:
  •  Professionals, Lawyers, Practitioners Rs. 10,000/- (Rupees Ten Thousand only) including Food, hostel accommodation.
  • Students registration has been reduced to Rs. 5,000 (Rupees Five Thousand only) following requests by students. This is inclusive of food, hostel accommodation.
  •  The above fee will include all instructional materials, computer use for tutorials and assignments, 24 hour free internet facility.
  • Participants needing accommodation must inform organizers at the time of registration.
  •  Last date for registration: 25th August, 2017.
