Legal training anywhere in the world, requires the capacity to objectively assess the facts, apply relevant principles of law and legislation and bring out reasons and arguments to justify ones stand. It is with this objective that the college has set up the V.M. Salgaocar College of Law Moot Court Society in the year 1998. The Society assists the students of the college to develop their faculties of rational thinking, articulation, presentation of arguments and moreover, strives to inculcate in each of the student, the spirit of professionalism, leadership and a strong desire for acquiring legal knowledge.

The Society was started with the object of addressing the pressing needs of harnessing the important skills of advocacy. The Moot Court being a court like situation, it effectively addresses several skills that a lawyer needs. It can effectively impart orals skills like arguments, answering questions and important soft skills of public speaking. In addition, it also addresses the skills of research, reasoning, application of legal principles to factual situations and drafting skills. On the whole the Moot Court Society helps in holistic growth of the student as a competent lawyer.

  • How many members are there?

Though the Society initially had a modest beginning with only six members, the laurels it brought were no less than spectacular. An institution which had never heard of Moot Court, could break the national jinx and reach the finals of the Bar Council Moot of that year.

With this remarkable achievement, there was no looking back. The society grew in strength and presently it has membership of approximately 50. The members are selected through a rigorous selection process, where nearly 200 students participate. (hyperlink of some selection moot photos)

Initially the Society was formed to systematically train the students for participation in National as well as International Moot Court Competitions. However, the present vibrancy in legal education has led to growth of metamorphosed competitions. Therefore now the society also deals with Trial Advocacy, Adlib Moots and other multiple events.
