The Centre for Child and the Law (CCL) under National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru was established as a specialized multi-disciplinary research centre of NLSIU on April 1, 1996. The Centre integrates research, direct field action, and teaching on child rights law. We use law and socio-legal strategies as tools for transformative social change to enable children to live with dignity. Our aim is to ensure social justice, human rights and quality of life for all children in India, with special focus on equitable quality education, care, protection and justice for marginalized and excluded children.

Note: This is a full-time role, based out of the NLSIU campus in Bengaluru. The Research Associate will work on the projects under the supervision of the Centre Coordinator. The projects will involve desk, as well as field research.
What Is The Eligibility Criteria & Roles & Responsibilities?
Eligibility Criteria (Essential Qualifications):
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law or Social Sciences from a recognised University
- Domain expertise/background in Child Rights (Child Protection / Right to Education / Right to Food / Criminal Law)
Desirable Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Law or Social Sciences from a recognised University
- Candidates who have experience in undertaking field-research will be preferred
Essential Experience and Skills:
- 1 to 3 years of work experience in an academic or professional setting with demonstrable evidence of research and writing ability (writing sample will be required)
- Strong, foundational understanding of the domain studied at the graduate, post-graduate level
- Analytical skills, collation skills, communication skills (written and oral), technical skills, time-management skills
- Self-driven, collaborative as well as the ability to work independently, attention to detail, data-driven
- Proficiency in MS Office, Gmail, Google Documents and Google Sheets
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Assist the Centre Coordinator and other team members in conducting literature reviews, curating relevant cases and materials, researching on contemporary themes and writing blog notes, academic papers and research reports
- Conducting field and desk research on identified issues
- Preparing for, organising and conducting workshops and conferences
- Preparing progress reports and or managing other reporting needs
- Handling administrative responsibilities under the project
- Drafting of legal opinions, review of draft national/state policies
- Framing proposals for funding, research and writing, training and other assignments
- Other Centre related activities and tasks
