Act 27 of the Kerala State Legislature established the National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS). The National Institute for Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS), founded by the Bar Council of Kerala Trust in 2002, joined with the NUALS under the same Act. The Visitor is the Chief Justice of India, and the Chancellor is the Chief Justice of Kerala.

CHLP’s Background

The Centre for Health Law and Policy is an interdisciplinary centre at the National University of Advanced Legal Studies that was created on August 8, 2014 as the university’s ninth study and research centre.

Dr. Liji Samuel, an Assistant Professor of Law at NUALS, Kochi, is the Centre’s director. Mr. Abdu Rabb, Kerala’s Hon’ble Minister for Education, officially opened the centre. The Center’s mission is to foster, promote, and support essential and innovative scholarship in the field of health care law, including teaching, research, consulting, and advocacy.

Regarding the Speaker

The speaker is a well-known litigator who specialises on representing the poor and marginalised. She has consistently advocated for the rights of manual scavengers, sewage workers, and other underprivileged workers to get state compensation and other steps to hold municipal companies accountable. The seminar would cover constitutional and jurisprudential issues, as well as a review of precedents in this area. The speaker would also talk about her experiences as a social worker and as a litigator.
