Indian Institute of Legal Studies, Siliguri is organising a One-Day National Webinar on “Patenting of COVID-19 Vaccines: Issues and Challenges” on November 13, 2021.

ABOUT INDIAN INSTITUTE OF LEGAL STUDIES

The Indian Institute of Legal Studies (IILS) situated at the foothills of the Himalayas in the Terrai- Dooars confluence bestowing it with natural landscape, sharing boundaries with the SAARC nations. The Indian Institute of Legal Studies is affiliated to the University of North Bengal and is approved by the Bar Council of India and recognized under Sections 2(f) &12-B of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956. The Institute is accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). IILS offers law programs for both 5 years integrated courses in B.A. LL. B. (Hons.), B.Com. LL.B. (Hons.) and B.B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) and 3years LL.B. It also offers 2 years LL.M. program and 2 years Master’s program in Public Administration and Governance.

The Indian Institute of Legal Studies acts as a transformer or rather a catalyst in Socio- Economic-Legal transformation and through its research-based education aims at establishing law-abiding citizens and thereby helps shape the quality of ‘Rule of Law’ in the society. Such aims can be fulfilled by comparative research and institutional partnership on faculty and student exchange basis and methods which shall be mutually beneficial. In this context, Indian Institute of Legal Studies takes this opportunity in organizing webinar on “Patenting of COVID-19 Vaccines: Issues and Challenges” Our institution took up the initiative of imparting education online through online classes in the situation of lockdown and pandemic, with the sole purpose of benefitting the students in every way possible. We believe that if we are able to successfully organise this Webinar, it would lead to the enhancement of the practical knowledge of our students.

OBJECTIVE OF THE NATIONAL WEBINAR

The understanding on the issues and challenges involved in the patenting of covid-19 vaccines will give a clear idea of how access to public health is affected by granting monopoly rights over innovative drugs or vaccines.

This webinar on this issue would not only educate the students but would also provide them with a platform to interact with the professional experts.
