Ramaiah College of Law is a law school in Bangalore, Karnataka, India, founded by M. S. Ramaiah. M. S. Ramaiah established it in 1995. The college is accredited by the Bar Council of India and is connected with Karnataka State Law University.

The National Tort Law Moot Court Competition, sponsored by Surana & Surana and Ramaiah College of Law, was created with the goal of providing chances for students to learn about the evolution of tort law jurisprudence as well as acquire cutting-edge research, writing, and advocacy abilities.

The Surana & Surana and Ramaiah College of Law National Tort Law Moot Court Competition will include a judgement writing competition with the following concepts and goals.

  • Aside from the main principle of establishing the rule of law and protecting justice, a judgement has a social and civic function.
  • It must “have clarity of thinking, explain judgement to parties, disclose reasons for decision to public, and provide cause for an appeal court to examine” in order to achieve the objectives.
  • To cultivate a well-balanced, prudent mentality.
  • Preventing the abuse of the judicial system.

Specific Details

  • Oral Rounds are held virtually using the Zoom/Cisco WebEx/Google Meet platforms.
  • Before the oral rounds, the participating teams will be given the link to the room on the platform, as well as the ID and password.
  • The dates are December 17–19, 2021.
  • English is the language of choice.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Students pursuing a three-year or five-year LL.B course during the current academic year are eligible to participate in the moot competition.
  • The teams competing in the 4th Surana & Surana and Ramaiah College of Law National Tort Law Moot Court Competition for the Judgment Writing Competition.
  • The forum/court in which the moot case is set and debated will be reflected in the structure of the ruling.

Team Composition Rules

  • Each team should have a minimum of two and a maximum of three people. Under no circumstances can this number be changed.
  • Each team will be assigned two presenters and one researcher. In the event that the designated speakers become ill, the researcher may argue with the court’s and National Administrator’s consent.
  • Prior to the submission of memorials by e-mail, each team will be given a team code.
  • This is a memorials-only team code. Teams should not reveal their institution’s name; doing so will result in penalties, including disqualification. The decision for the same shall be at the discretion of the National Administrator.

Submission (For Judgment Writing Competition)

  • The participant team shall submit a decision originating from the National Moot Court Tort Law case to the administrator in MS Word format, not to exceed 3000 words, including footnotes, citations, and so on.
  • It is necessary to submit a draught of the judgement in order to be eligible to participate in the oral rounds.
  • For the judgement writing competition, the deadline for submitting a draught of the judgement in word format is November 23, 2021.
  • Mootcourt@msrcl.org and mootcourt@lawindia.com will receive a soft copy of the same.

On completion of the oral arguments, the final copy of the verdict for:

  • Teams that do not advance to the Semi-Finals must email their final decision to mootcourt@msrcl.org and mootcourt@lawindia.com by 11:59 a.m. on Sunday, December 19, 2021.
  • Teams that advance to the Semi-Finals must email their final judgement to mootcourt@msrcl.org and mootcourt@lawindia.com by 11:59 a.m. on Monday, December 20, 2021.

Information about how to register (With payment details)

  • From October 20, 2021, online registration will be available.
  • By November 15, 2021, the teams must have registered online.
  • Teams must register on the website www.moot.in.
  • No requests for temporary registration will be accepted. Please do not make such requests to Surana & Surana or RCL.
  • On successful registration, participants will receive an automated system-generated acknowledgement.
  • By the 16th of November, participants will get a provisional permission as acceptance of their participation request.

The Registration Procedure

Option 1: Your university/college/moot society duly signed and sealed the Registration form and Approval letter as specified in the rules.

Option 2: Combine I and (ii) into a single PDF.

(i)A completely completed Registration form/Approval letter (without seal or signature) as specified in the rules

(ii) A scanned copy of your university/college/moot society’s authorization letter, signed and sealed.

Or

To finish the registration procedure, email communication from your university/college/moot society’s official id (to be typed in as notification email ID during the online registration process) is required.

Note:

  • Any of the following individuals should sign the registration form: MCA/MCS/MCC Faculty-in-Charge, Registrar, Dean, Principal, Director, Chancellor, or Vice-Chancellor
  • Registration will not be valid unless it is accompanied by a scanned copy of the approval letter, an electronic correspondence from the college/institution/university, or a fully certified registration form.
  • A soft copy of the registration and permission letter, as well as an email correspondence, should be emailed to mootcourt@msrcl.org. by November 15, 2021, with the title 4th SURANA & SURANA AND RAMAIAH COLLEGE OF LAW NATIONAL TORT LAW MOOT COURT COMPETITION REGISTRATION.
  • The provisional team code shall be allotted to the registered teams by Host University soon after receiving the registration particulars.
  • On receiving the provisional team code from the moot committee/society of RCL you may proceed to pay the registration fees.

A registration fee of Rs. 4,000/- is to be paid via NEFT by November 18, 2021, to the following account:

Receipt of online payment to be submitted to mootcourt@msrcl.org via email.

If a team withdraws from the competition or is disqualified, the team next in line according to registration data (where registration exceeds the maximum 40 teams) will be given the opportunity to compete on short notice. To be eligible, teams must submit memorials at least 3 days prior to the commencement of the tournament.

Awards

  • 25,000 rupees to the winning team
  • 15,000 rupees for the second-placed team
  • The best memorial is worth Rs. 10,000.
  • 7000 rupees for the best student advocate
  • 7000 rupees for the best researcher
  • Other categories of winners will receive plaques and certificates in addition to the above awards.

Certificates of participation will be given to all participants.

2021: Tort Law Judgment Writing

  • Runner up: Rs. 7000/- Winner: Rs. 10,000/-
  • Certificates will be given to the third and fourth best judgments.
  • Participation certificates will be given to all participants who have submitted judgments.
  • Individual certificates would be given to the winners (winner/runner up).
  • Surana & Surana International Attorney will not be held liable in any way for this competition.
