Symbiosis Law School (SLS) Hyderabad was established in 2014 inheriting splendid novelty, dynamism and excellence in the education of Symbiosis International Deemed University, Pune.

About Environmental Law Cell

Environmental Law Cell (ELC), one of the many centres of Symbiosis Law School, Hyderabad was established with the motto of incorporating a sense of responsibility towards the environment among students and creating awareness about each person’s individual responsibilities to contribute in the prevention of future degradation of the environment.

About the Event

The COVID-19 pandemic has posed serious challenges to billions worldwide, with total uncertainty about days to come. The challenges faced are of a great multitude, including adverse impact on the environment and in order to minimize such impacts regulations are a must.

The National Green Tribunal has been established under the National Green Tribunal Act 2010 for effective and expeditious disposal of cases relating to environmental protection and conservation of forests and other natural resources including enforcement of any legal right relating to the environment.

Its role is also to give relief and compensation for damages to persons and property, and for other related matters. However, the roles and duties of the NG, (and also its existence in some cases) are not well known to common people. This should however not be the case with budding lawyers, who should know how the NGT functions.

Hence ELC believes that this National webinar by Professor Gill will be fruitful to all young law students and help you all to navigate the vast field of National Green Tribunal.

About the Speaker

Professor Gill’s research interest forms a coherent body reflecting the thematic issues: importance of access of justice in environmental matters, promotion of social justice agenda, SDGs, sustainability and good governance in Asia with a
focus on India.

In 2013-16, funded by a British Academy grant, she examined the casework and environmental jurisprudence of India’s National Green Tribunal. Her research findings were published in Environmental Justice in India: The National Green Tribunal (2017, Routledge UK).
