INTERVIEW QUESTIONS
LawOF: Sir, as being a law teacher, how would you like to introduce yourself to our readers?
Zain Saleh: This is Zain Saleh, Research Assistant, DSNLU, Visakhapatnam. I have studied 3year LLB from NBM Law College, Vskp. I chose to pursue an LLM degree from NALSAR University, Hyderabad.
LawOF: What inspired you to join law, were you able to satisfy your self-inspiration.
Zain Saleh: A legal family crisis drove me into the legal orbit, from where I got sucked into it as if it were a whirlpool. The subject is so vast and challenging that it leaves no space or scope of getting bored. There is no redundancy or mundaneness in this field.
But these are very basic reasons; a very important use of law is as a tool for studying social change. The subtle but far reaching impact of policies on the society can be understood only through the understanding of laws and their impact on the society.
LawOF: How was your law school journey?
Zain Saleh: My law school journey wasn’t very exhilarating or flamboyant. The college from where I pursued my LLB was a very modest institute. But my understanding of social dynamics of our society was very visible even in this small institution.
Unlike the various NLUs, which are premium institutions of legal education in India, where an entrance exam and a maximum cap on the age limit restrict admission into the course, my institute was open to pupils of all ages. This has helped me learn from a slew of working and retired people from various fields in the form of peer learning.
LawOF: What’s the best thing about your job?
Zain Saleh: The best thing about my job is that I get to use unlimited resources for the various research projects I have undertaken and classroom teaching has sharpened my ability to think on my feet.
LawOF: What would you suggest for the students who are new to the law profession and those who are graduating?
Zain Saleh: As said by Justice Holmes, The life of a lawyer is about experience. So my advice to new and graduating law professionals would be, “keep your eyes, ears and brain open…always…presence of mind is a very important tool one has to possess as a lawyer.
LawOF: How do you measure the success of any person in their career?
Zain Saleh: Success of a person in any career may be measured by the new ideas and developments suggested or made by that person in their respective fields.
LawOF: What according to you should be the prime concern for law students?
Zain Saleh: Fair academic score and extraordinary internships.
LawOF: Please share the golden rules of your life, which brought you here so that the students can gain from the useful insight and can be inspired by you.
Zain Saleh: Law is a subject, which demands its students to be street smart, book smart and courageous. If a law student has these qualities, his progression to success in the legal field will be geometric instead of arithmetic.
LawOF: Any suggestions or comments for the students?
Zain Saleh: If statute is the skeleton of a law, case law is its flesh and blood. An exhaustive study of cases is a must from any law student, law teacher, or a lawyer. Without the habit of reading cases and journals one cannot be called a law student.
