SUMMER SCHOOL ON ADVOCACY AND MEDIATION SKILLS:

Ansal University School of Law is the pioneer among the law schools in India to establish a permanent Advocacy and Mediation Skills Clinic for imparting training in advocacy and mediation performance skills to its students on a continuous basis. The clinic is set up to serve two-way objective for the students which focus on advocacy skills and mediation. Where advocacy skills aid students to learn and inculcate the ethics and performance skills as an advocate and the mediation skills will put them into another level that is of facilitating the resolution of a dispute between parties by themselves. The clinic will put the students through learning by doing sessions which will help students to implement and practice the legal knowledge they attain in the classroom.

About the Summer School on Advocacy and Mediation Skills:

The School of Law is organizing the Summer School on Mediation and Advocacy Skills from 24th June 2016 to 30th June 2016. The Summer School is conceived under the able leadership of Dr. Aman Hingorani, Advocate, and Mediator, Supreme Court of India, who was called to the Bar in 1992 and has been engaged in teaching since 1998 as adjunct faculty. Dr. Hingorani has taught in programmes at various institutions in India (including Campus Law Centre, Delhi University and Indian Law Institute, New Delhi) and abroad (including Keble College, Oxford University, School of Law, Warwick University, and South Asian Institute of Advanced Legal and Human Rights Studies, Dhaka). Dr. Hingorani will be joined at the Summer School by Ms. Kunika, Barrister from the Honourable Society of  Lincoln’s Inn, London, who has vast experience in advocacy and mediation performance skills training, modeled on the Bar Professional Training Course in the U.K. Ms. Kunika practices law at the Supreme Court of India, Delhi High Court and the District Courts. The Summer School is being organized with the objective of instilling the art of advocacy and mediation skills amongst the academicians, advocates, and young law students. This will endeavor to impart instruction on the methodology of “Learning by doing” to develop the performance skills of both advocacy and mediation. The advocacy module entails imparting skills of case analysis, legal drafting, witness handling and making of oral submissions. The mediation module would involve imparting communication, negotiation and facilitative skills. Ethical exercises are in built in these modules. The focus is on honing the forensic skills of the participants, regardless of their area of practice.

Eligibility:

The programme is open to young law graduates, research scholars, advocates, and academicians. Candidates must display a strong drive, motivation and commitment towards the Summer School.

Candidates interested must drop in a line of confirmation along with the scanned copy of the Demand Draft to the undersigned.

Send the hard copy of the Demand Draft in the name of Ansal University payable at New Delhi, latest by 14th June 2016.
