The Centre for Law and Policy Research is a non-profit organization dedicated to making the Constitution work for everyone through law and policy research, social and governance interventions and strategic impact litigation.
In 2016, the Centre for Law and Policy Research has set up a website on the Supreme Court of India called the Supreme Court Observer. The Observer is a non-partisan journalistic effort which seeks to make the work of the Supreme Court intelligible to any person interested in Indian public affairs.
The aim of the Observer is to communicate the relevance and importance of the Supreme Court’s work without embellishment or outrage. We focus on generating attention on issues of great public significance and build discourse around it. The project emphasizes on presenting our work in a simple and accessible manner to ensure maximum public engagement.
The Reporter must be based in Delhi and undertake the following tasks on a full time basis:
- Reporting on cases and issues relating to the Supreme Court of India as directed by the Observer team.
- Liaise and interact with lawyers, other individuals and firms from the legal community who are involved in the cases tracked by the Observer.
- Track and attend hearings of cases at the Supreme Court of India as decided by the Observer team.
- Generate content – case briefs, blog posts, op-eds etc. – for the Observer website.
- Assist with further enhancement of functionality of the Observer website.
The Court Reporter will be on probation for a month and will be offered a long term engagement subject to his/her performance.
Applicants for the above positions must have a strong academic background and excellent research and writing skills.
Candidates with prior work experience in the Supreme Court of India and/or a legal journalism background will be preferred.
