To uphold the Sanatan values of life and to render quality education, Shri Brahmavarta Sanatan Dharma
Mahamandal, the parent body of Vikramajit Singh Sanatan Dharma College, Kanpur was founded in 1916,
seeking inspiration from Swami Dayanand ji, a great philosopher and promoter of Hindu Dharm. However, the
Sanatan Dharma College, later known as Vikramajit Singh Sanatan Dharma College, Kanpur was established in
1921 under the guardianship of Rai Bahadur Babu Vikamajit Singh Ji. From its very inception, the college was
famous as a college of commerce, to award Diploma in commerce was affiliated to Bombay University. In 1923
the college got affiliation from Allahabad University, Allahabad, to award degree of Bachelor of Commerce
(B.Com.). The classes for Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in different other subjects began in 1925. Later in
1927 the college was affiliated to Agra University and LL.B. classes started in 1928. B.Sc. classes were started
in 1956 whereas the M.Sc. classes began in 1964. Since 1967, the college is affiliated to C. S. J. M. University
Kanpur. The College has been accredited ‘A’ grade by NAAC in 2009 & 2016 cycles. The college presently
runs study programs under sixteen departments of six different faculties, namely, Arts, Commerce, Science,
Teacher Education, Law and Physical Education. The College has celebrated its centenary in 2021. The
Department of Law has been actively involved in legal research and organizing seminars, workshops etc.
In the year 1927, the esteemed Department of Law at VS.S.D. College was established. Following in Babu Shyamlal Ji’s footsteps, the late Pandit Kali Shankar Sharma became the principal of VSSD College in 1928 and served for many years. Rai Bahadur K.G. Banerji, former District and Session Judge, succeeded Pandit Kali Shankar Sharma out of compassion for the institution. In his illustrious career, Rai Bahadur K.G. Banerji was a highly respected attorney and intellectual who contributed significantly to governmental and non-governmental committees and even the High Court. In addition to these venerable leaders, there were many others who have made invaluable contributions to the Department of Law over the years.
Department of Law, VSSD College, Kanpur, is organising it’s 1st Barrister Narendrajit Singh National Moot Court Competition, which is scheduled on 26&27 November, 2023. Problem has been drafted by drawing an interface between Constitution and Cyber Law. Participation of enthusiastic candidates is anticipated. Please refer to the brochure for further details.
