About the Organisation

Government Law College (GLC), established in 1855, has the distinction of being the oldest Law College in Asia, dating even prior to the University of Mumbai, and enjoys a pre-eminent reputation for excellence in the field of legal education. Government Law College or GLC, as it is popularly known, continues to be an institution exclusively for the students of law.

About the Moot

the 1st edition of the Wildlife Protection Government Law College National Moot Court Competition, 2019 hosted by Government Law College, Mumbai, in association with the Wildlife Conservation Trust.

The Competition is scheduled to be held from 11th – 13th October 2019. Government Law College, Mumbai, India is pleased to invite a team from your esteemed institution to participate in this inaugural moot court competition.

Wildlife Protection Government Law College National Moot Court Competition, 2019 is India’s first wildlife conservation-focused Moot Court Competition. This event marks its first edition this year with the view of creating awareness on the challenges faced by wildlife among law students.

The Moot Proposition of the competition deals primarily with issues relating to wildlife and forest law, highlighting the emerging legal landscape, and has been drafted by experts in the field.

The participants will be made to go through extensive Mooting Rounds, to ensure that only the two best teams reach the Final Round of Arguments. All participants are also to present their Written Submissions a month prior to the Competition.

The Moot Court Competition will be conducted over three days where the participating teams will go through two Preliminary Rounds of Argument, Quarter-Final Rounds of Argument, the Semi-Final Rounds of Argument and ultimately, the Final Round of Arguments. Eminent lawyers and Judges of the highest standing in India, academicians and experts in the field of wildlife and forest law shall converge to adjudicate the various rounds of the Competition.

The Final Rounds of Arguments will be judged by a distinguished bench of sitting Judges of the Hon’ble Bombay High Court who will grill the participants and evaluate their performances in a sombre real-life setting.

A unique feature of our Competition is a Panel Discussion which witnesses the representation of eminent personalities from the field of environmental law, wildlife conservation, media, etc.

Eligibility

A team from any recognised law college/university can participate.

The Moot Proposition and Registration Form for the first edition of the competition will be released shortly. Please note that the theme of the Moot Proposition is Linear Infrastructure and its impact on Wildlife.

Registrations for the competition will open shortly. Meanwhile, your esteemed university can provisionally register for the competition by sending an email to wpm.glc@gmail.comstating your interest to register.

Please note that registration is on a first-come-first-serve basis and only 16 Universities/Colleges shall be registered for the competition.
